As of January 10th, Joseph Lehman, Jr. celebrated his 30th Anniversary with P. Joseph Lehman, Inc., Consulting Engineers. Joe has been with P. Joseph Lehman, Inc. where he has served as President for the past 18 years.  He is a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania and eight surrounding states and is also a Certified Bridge Safety Inspector.

P. Joseph Lehman, Inc. Consulting Engineers was established in 1969 by Joe’s father, P. Joseph Lehman. The organization is celebrating it’s and 54th Anniversary this year. The firm was inducted into the Blair Chamber Hall of Fame in October of 2018 and received the Blair Chamber Community Service award in 2017. Lehman’s father, who had worked as a liaison engineer for PennDOT before starting the company out of the basement of his home, focused on small companies. In 2005, P. Joseph Lehman Sr. turned over the reins of the business to his son and a group of partners, which today include Bob Bryant, Transportation Services Director; Marty Malone, Client Services Director; Husam Obeid, Bridge Design Director; Chuck Meyers, Project Manager/Lead Highway Engineer; Aaron Craig, Bridge Inspection/Field Services Director; and Scott Klingenberg, Environmental Services Director.

While sadly Mr. Lehman passed away in March of 2020, he had great pride in his son and had the following to say during an interview:   “My son, Joe, is doing a great job running the firm. He has a great rapport with both employees and clients, and has assembled an outstanding team of dedicated employees and partners,” P. Joseph Lehman Sr. said. “Over the past 40 years, Joe has kept the firm up-to-date with the latest innovations as they relate to civil engineering. He is doing a better job of running the firm than I did. I am very proud of their success.” (Joe worked at the firm as a teen and helped to automate and computerize systems-time not counted in his “official” anniversary.)

Joe is proud of the firm and its many projects. Over the years, Lehman Engineers expanded to offer transportation engineering, environmental consulting, survey, structural design, and utility related work. Their annual fundraiser “Lehman Engineers Trail Ride and Walk to Benefit Dreams Go On” at Canoe Creek has been sponsored by his firm since it’s inception. The event has now raised over $340,330.88 for local therapeutic horseback riding.

Joe was born in Spangler, Pennsylvania in 1965, then raised in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania since age four. He attended Penn-Mont pre-school, St. Michael’s and St. Mary’s parochial elementary schools in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. He graduated Valedictorian from Kiski Preparatory School in Saltsburg, Pennsylvania.

He received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a Minor in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York in 1987, then his MBA from Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts in 1989.

Joe married Betsy Marie (Hoover) Lehman in 2006. They are blessed with two children, Lauren Lehman (15) and Joey Lehman (14). Both children attend Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High Schools and all are members of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Hollidaysburg.

Joe is active in the community and a promoter of servant leadership at the firm. Joe is a graduate of the Leadership Blair County program and is currently a member of the Blair Chamber Public Policy Committee and a previous member of the Leadership Blair County program committee. He is a member of the Independent Catholic Foundation Board and St. Michael’s Finance Committee. Joe was a member of both the High Hopes and the Dreams Go On Boards and helped steer them through their transition to a nonprofit and merger. He also regularly supports his parish, the Bishop Guilfoyle Marauder Club, EITC for Holy Trinity Catholic School and the Annual Catholic Appeal, Family Services, UPMC Altoona Hospital Foundation among numerous other local charities.

Joe is involved with all of his kids’ extracurricular and sporting events. Joe enjoys photography, genealogy, and gardening in his free time.
