National Engineers Week took place February 16-22, 2025. As part of the “Engineers Fight to CAN Hunger” initiative, the firm donated $250.00 to the American Rescue Workers (ARW), Altoona, Pa, through the 14th annual birthday Food drive effort led by Lauren Lehman, daughter of Joe Lehman, Jr., President.
In total, Lauren Lehman‘s 14th annual birthday food drive to fight hunger raised $1,507. In addition to the $250 donated to the ARW, Lauren donated $1,257 to the Dorothy Day Outreach Center, Loretto, PA. Lauren led the initiative and asked neighbors, family, friends, students at Bishop Guilfoyle Academy, and employees at P. Joseph Lehman, Inc. Consulting Engineers, to donate food or funds to help the Dorothy Day Outreach Center (Loretto, Pa) and the “Engineers Fight to CAN Hunger” initiative for the American Rescue Workers (Altoona, Pa).
In keeping with past tradition, Lauren and her family also delivered and unpacked 2 SUVs full of donated food, cleaning supplies and toiletries to the Dorothy Day Outreach Center on Saturday Feb. 1. Lauren also participated with leaders from local engineering firms to support “Engineers Fight To CAN Hunger” on February 21 during National Engineers Week to present the $250 donation to the American Rescue Workers, Altoona, Pa.
Lauren’s food drive effort began during her 4th birthday party when guests were asked to bring food for the Dorothy Day Center instead of gifts. Lauren loved the spirit of giving and has chosen to continue the request each year. For the past three years, she has included the American Rescue Workers among her food drive recipients. It made sense to collaborate the fundraising efforts due to the similar timeline of Lauren’s annual fundraiser with the engineering firm’s food drive efforts, as employees have always supported Lauren. Joe Lehman stated, “I am very proud of my daughter, Lauren, for her selfless efforts to raise money and food for those in need.”
Lauren raised a portion of the funds collected, $337, from her handmade, glass bead bracelet sales – available at Dr. Joan Bartolotta’s Optometrist Locations in Roaring Spring and Ebensburg, Pa. Lauren distributed flyers, sent text messages and email, and placed food boxes to collect donations. She likes helping the Dorothy Day Outreach Center and the American Rescue Workers to do her part to fight hunger for families that don’t have enough to eat.
Lauren Lehman is a junior at Bishop Guilfoyle High School and also engages in servant leadership by supporting local veterans, volunteering with Dreams Go On, Inc., St. Michael The Arch Angel Catholic Church, and other local non profit organizations.
