P. JOSEPH LEHMAN, Inc., Consulting Engineers designed the replacement of the flood walls for Hyndman Borough in Bedford County, PA, in April 1997. Several floods had plagued the borough for many years. Walls were washed away by a flood in January 1996.
Once the $700,000 in construction funds was obtained and other obstacles overcome, construction began and ground was broken in October 1998.
The new flood walls were constructed utilizing twin steel beams concreted five feet into the rock, rock anchor tie-backs concreted ten feet into the rock, and precast reinforced concrete panels.
