Groundbreaking Ceremony

U.S. Representative John Murtha joined the Hastings Area Industrial Development Association (HAIDA) on August 31, 2001 to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Hastings Industrial Park Access Road.

Also assisting with the groundbreaking were representatives from State Representative Gary Haluska's office, Cambria County Commissioners, Cambria County Industrial Development Corporation, Southern Alleghenies Planning & Development Commission, PennDOT, US Department of Agriculture, P. Joseph Lehman, Inc., Consulting Engineers, CH&D Enterprises, Inc. and Appalachian Regional Commission.

The $2,694,040 project involves construction of a new access road for the Hastings Industrial Park.  The new road is approximately 1/2 mile in length and includes construction of a new box culvert bridge and 1/2 mile of re-construction/re-alignment of several existing state roads.

Over 267,000 cubic yards will be excavated for the new road, which will lower Number 9 Road (SR 4021)  by 25 to 30 feet at the top of the hill entering Hastings from SR 219.

Funding for the project was made available by:  Hastings Area Industrial Development Association, Federal Government TEA-21 Grant, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Appalachian Regional Commission, USDA Rural Business Enterprise Grant and Pennsylvania Opportunity Grant.
